1970년 휴스톤에서 기타리스트 Billy Gibbons, 베이시스트 Dusty Hill, 드러머 Frank Beard 등 3인조로 결성되어, 멤버 교체없이 줄곧 활동해 오고 있는 블루스의 대표주자 그들은 특유의 긴 턱수염으로 강한 인상을 주는 그룹으로 1970년에 'ZZ Top's First Album'을 발표한 것을 시작으로, 오늘날까지 꾸준히 활동하고 있는 deeper blues 록큰롤 명예의 전당 "공연자 부문"에 선정되기도 함 I done ran into my baby and fin'lly found my old blue jean.
